Japan will continue to defend the FIFA Women's World Cup as they meet Ecuador at the Winnipeg Stadium in Group C of the tournament.

Having won the first two matches in the competition, the Japanese team will look to completely sweep the group with a win over Ecuador.
Their first match was against Switzerland and a goal from Aya Miyama made the difference in the match-up.
Kozue Ando drew a foul on the Swiss player Gaelle Thalmann inside the box, setting up captain Miyama to take a spot kick. Her attempt went to the bottom left corner of the goal to beat the keeper and give Japan the lead.
Japan held on to the lead to get their first points in the tournament.
In their match with Cameroon, early strikes from Aya Sameshima and Yuika Sugasawa gave the Japanese women enough cushion to play comfortably against the team.
Ajara Nchout got one back for Cameroon in the 90th minute, but it was too late as Japan notched their second win in as many games to go three points clear atop the table.
Meanwhile, Ecuador have been heavily overmatched in the tournament.
Qualifying in the World Cup was an achievement for Ecuador, but the opposition were clearly miles ahead of them, which reflected in the scores of their first two games.
Ecuador's curtain-raiser was against Cameroon where they were thrashed 6-0. Three goals in each half spelled disaster for Ecuador and they could not find a way to stop their opponents from scoring.
Things went from bad to worse in Ecuador's second game against Switzerland as they lost 10-1 by surrendering eight goals in the second half.
Two of those 10 allowed scores were own goals, with Angie Ponce providing a consolation goal for Ecuador as they bowed out to the superior team.
Against the defending champions, Ecuador now have one more shot to put on a good performance and boost their morale.
